Dope athlete Moritz Boll: Riding, recovery, and what keeps him inspired | Dope Mag

Name: Moritz Boll
Bio: Snowboarder · Dope Team Rider · Freestyle & Freeride
Age: 25
Hometown: Cologne, Germany
Based in: Zürich

For Moritz, snowboarding has always been about following what feels right. At 14 he joined the sports school in Davos, a turning point that showed him his dream of becoming a pro snowboarder could really happen. Since then, he’s poured everything into riding and building a life around the mountains.

Ask him to describe his style and he’ll say “loose but powerful”. Ask about his best memories and he’ll point straight to The Nines or late sessions in Laax that stretched until sunset. Whether it’s pushing through injury, riding with his crew, or just keeping the stoke alive off the mountain, Moritz’s story is all about passion and the moments that make snowboarding worth it.

When did you first realise snowboarding wasn’t just a hobby for you?

I’d say around 14, when I got into the sports school in Davos. I’d always dreamed of becoming a pro snowboarder, but getting into that program showed me I was on the right path and that snowboarding could really turn into a career.

How would you describe your riding style?

I’d say it’s loose but powerful. Hard to put into words, haha, but I’m always trying to make my snowboarding look good and natural while showing my own style on the mountain.

What’s the most ridiculous or unexpected thing that’s happened to you on the mountain?

When the lockdown was announced, I knew it would be the last day of the season in Laax. So we went for a sunset session and filmed one more time. We stayed on the mountain until 8pm - by far my longest day snowboarding - but it was so sick!

Who’s your go-to crew for a day on snow, and what makes them the best to ride with?

That would have to be Florian Fischer. He passed away last year from cancer, but he was, and still is, a huge inspiration for me. Riding with him was always the best. I loved his style and the unique way he rode the park, unlike anyone else.
Missing you, brother. R.I.P.

If you could relive one session or trip forever, which one would it be?

My first year at The Nines will always have a special place in my heart. Being there for the first time was a dream come true, and riding with legends like Halldor Helgason was super dope. The setup and the whole vibe in general were just sick.

Off the mountain, what keeps you stoked and inspired?

Since I was injured last year it’s been tough to find something that gives me the same stoke as snowboarding. But the gym has become more fun for me. I’ve been pushing myself a lot, and getting stronger and healthier has been pretty cool. Besides that, I really enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, family, and friends.

Song you’d put on repeat for your dream run?

That’s a tough one, but I absolutely love Nelly Furtado. I’d probably put on Maneater or Promiscuous, haha.

How long have you been riding for Dope, and what made it feel like the right fit?

This is my fourth season with Dope, and I absolutely love the whole crew. It feels like a family - everyone is super supportive and easy to ride with. The vibe of the brand and the people behind it is amazing. They really care about their riders, which is huge for me, and they actually listen to our feedback and update the products the way we want. That’s super sick!

After being injured for way too long, I just want to enjoy snowboarding without thinking about challenges. It’s my passion, and it should always feel fun.

Looking ahead, what’s the next big challenge for you?

After being injured for way too long, I honestly just want to enjoy snowboarding without thinking about challenges. For me it’s all about doing what feels right and having fun with it, because snowboarding is my passion.
