Dope pullover vs. full-zip jackets which style is best for you | Dope Mag

Our latest collection is absolutely fire! There’s no denying it. But when scrolling through new outerwear, you’ll probably notice we have a couple of different jacket styles: pullovers (also known as anoraks) and full-zip jackets (also known as zip-throughs or full-zips).

With the help of our rad community and pro-rider collabs, we’ve improved our designs year after year. But are pullovers or full-zips more your style? We're here to answer that exact question, and once you've picked a style, the Dope jacket lineup breaks down every model that comes in it. So, let’s get started.

Breaking down our Dope full-zip and pullover designs

What’s the difference between a pullover and a full-zip?

Before we get into each individual style, it’s crucial to know the main differences between a pullover and a full-zip jacket:

  • Entry: Typically, a pullover goes over your head (like a hoodie), while a full-zip jacket has a long center-front zipper. Some of our pullovers feature half-zip collars or side zippers, but they still have to be pulled over your head, hence the name.
  • Pockets: A pullover typically has a large front pocket (or “kangaroo pouch”), while a full-zip jacket can have multiple external and internal pockets.

Oh, and don’t forget… Our pullovers and full-zips offer the same waterproof and breathable ratings. Each jacket features Dope’s DRY Tech fabric, with 15,000mm waterproofing and 15,000g breathability for all-day, all-mountain protection.

Which style is best for you?

There’s no wrong choice here. Both pullovers and full-zips are built for all-mountain riding, with the same waterproof and breathable protection. The best option depends on how you like to ride, layer, and move through your day.

When to choose a pullover

Choose a pullover if you’re into a clean, minimal look and usually keep your jacket on all day. With no full-length front zipper, pullovers feel streamlined and offer that classic riding-hoodie style, while the large front pocket keeps your essentials close.

The trade-off? They’re a little less convenient to take on and off, especially with a helmet and goggles. You’ll also rely more on underarm vents when you need to cool down.

Planning to layer underneath? Check our Dope Snow size guide before choosing your fit.

When to choose a full-zip

Choose a full-zip if you want maximum convenience. They’re easy to open for quick temperature control, simple to take on and off, and a great choice if your day involves riding, hiking, driving, and après.

Full-zips also tend to offer more classic jacket features, including multiple pocket options and easy front access. The only real trade-off is the look: they’re a little less minimal than a pullover.

Dope full-zip jackets

Our Dope full-zip jackets do what they say on the box. They’re outfitted with center-front zippers for easy entry. Oh, and they come in a variety of stylish colorways and prints, of course. So let’s meet our usual suspects…

  • Adept: the do-it-all OG
  • Apex: boxy retro styling
  • Blizzard Full Zip: the rider favorite
  • Puffer: maximum warmth
  • Spartan: minimalist throwback cut
  • JT Spartan: oversized '00s style, built with Jesper
  • Vertex: relaxed fit, exposed zips

Dope pullover jackets

Pull it over your head and ride! Our pullover designs are often a little more minimal and boxy than their full-zip counterparts, but they’re still loaded with all the Dope tech.

  • Akin: seven pockets, side-zip entry
  • Arnok: light, stretchy half-zip
  • Blizzard Pullover: the all-rounder
  • Cyclone: retro '90s softshell
  • Halo: max mobility
  • Halo OG: same as Halo, with the front logo
  • Legacy: Regular or Oversized, insulated or shell
  • Yeti: warm days and slush

FAQs

Check out some of the most commonly asked questions about our jackets below.

Is a pullover better than a full-zip jacket?

Nope! Both provide reliable waterproof, breathable protection. Choosing between the two simply comes down to style preference and how you like to ride.

Are pullovers warmer than full-zip jackets?

A jacket’s style, fit, and features don’t determine how warm it is. That job falls to the insulation layer. So check whether the jacket you’re looking at has built-in insulation (like the Fellex® insulation we use!) if you’re looking for warmth.

Are Dope full-zips more waterproof than pullovers?

Another nope! All our styles are made from the same DRY Tech fabric, so you always get an awesome 15,000mm waterproof rating, no matter which jacket you choose.

Ready for the season?

And there we have it: the Dope pullover vs. full-zip breakdown. If you want a clean, minimal look and usually keep your jacket on all day, go pullover. If you want easy temperature control and quick on-off convenience, go full-zip.

Either way, you’re getting the same DRY Tech protection, mountain-ready performance, and signature Dope style. Now all that’s left is to pick your colorway and drop in.
